What we found. What we held.
Our reporting window is 21–27 September 2026. We searched for Tamil Nadu stories, then read the accessible full reports or institutional releases listed below. The satires were published on 28 September, not backdated to the news events.
This is a scoped editorial review, not a comprehensive survey of the week or independent on-the-ground reporting. One full source supports each selected topic. Institutional releases establish what was announced, not whether the promised outcomes have been achieved.
Politics: Transparency returns from short leave after public notices it missing
A PTI report published by Telangana Today on 27 September says the Tamil Nadu government withdrew a 21 September order exempting its Public (Law and Order) Department from the RTI Act. The report describes objections from political parties and transparency advocates before the withdrawal.
According to that report, the original order invoked Section 24(4) and classified the department as an Intelligence and Security Organisation. This was a department-specific exemption, not a suspension of RTI across Tamil Nadu.
Limits: We read the full PTI report, not the original government orders. The order dates and legal mechanism above are attributed to that reporting; this is not a legal interpretation of every exemption or exception under the Act. The office, ceremony and dialogue below are invented.

City Life: Chennai commuter adds ‘awaiting inauguration’ to daily travel time
Metro Rail News reported on 26 September that the 14.6-km Poonamallee Bypass–Vadapalani section of Chennai Metro Phase II could be inaugurated on 11 October during a proposed visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The report describes the date as likely, not a confirmed passenger timetable. It also says work continued at several stations between Alapakkam and Saligramam and that CMRL had not clarified their opening timeline.
Limits: This is a snapshot of the 26 September report, not a live travel advisory. We did not independently obtain a CMRL opening notice or safety certificate. Do not infer that every station is complete, or that ceremonial scheduling is the sole reason for the wait; check CMRL for actual services.

Tech: Construction robot masters ‘almost done, sir’ before learning to lay a brick
IIT Madras announced the inauguration of a ₹3.30-crore construction robotics laboratory on 22 September, established with CSR support from Bechtel India.
Its release describes research, testing and demonstrations in construction robotics and automation, alongside industry mentorship and potential internship opportunities. It describes a research partnership, not a completed fleet of robots deployed to building sites.
Limits: The source is IIT Madras’s own press release, which establishes what the institution announced but does not independently demonstrate outcomes. The robot, software, delays and conversations in this satire are fictional, not claims about IIT Madras, Bechtel or their staff.

Society: Family’s ‘switch off the light’ advice returns as a 40-slide energy pitch
On 25 September, IIT Madras announced an Energy Technology Incubation programme with Chevron ENGINE for innovators, student teams, researchers and social entrepreneurs.
The release identifies areas including energy infrastructure, carbon utilisation, circular economy and resource efficiency. It describes stage-dependent support such as prototype and business-model validation, incubation, grants, mentorship and market readiness.
Limits: This institutional release describes the programme’s launch and intended support; it is not evidence of funding awarded to any particular applicant or proven environmental outcomes. Our family, founder and pitch are invented and are not participants in the actual programme.

Held back from this edition
Search headlines are leads, not enough evidence to publish detailed factual claims. These candidates did not clear that threshold:
- 160-km Chennai road-upgrade proposals
A 24 September headline from The Hindu was located, but its full report and underlying project documents were not reviewed. Do not turn a proposal into a claim of completed work.
- ₹98.25-crore command-centre overhaul
Only the 26 September headline was available to this review. No verified scope, approval status or procurement record: hold the proposed spending and pothole-monitoring satire.
- Tamil Nadu’s search for a new government headquarters
The 25 September New Indian Express headline was found; full access was blocked. A retrospective is not necessarily a new relocation decision.
- IIT Madras-linked deep-tech investment fund
The 27 September ET Education headline was found, but the full investment report was not reviewed. Replaced with accessible primary announcements; no claims about commitments, money received or investments deployed.
- Liquor cess and retail prices
Search headlines gave different impressions of the retail-price effect. No reconciled notification or price list was obtained, so no price-rise claim is published.
How the jokes were separated from the facts
Invented quotations belong only to invented characters. We make no criminal allegations, invent no statements by real officials, and present no fictional timetable as travel information. Each article includes a separate factual-context box, dated sources and the specific limits of our review.
We chose institutional absurdity and everyday language over jokes about the week’s reports of illness, victims or shortages of critical medicines. The technology pieces target hype and familiar habits—not construction workers or researchers.
